Yes, but they are all playing football. It is quite reasonable,
therefore, that they should compete to see who can play football the
best. But a football team does not compete against a basketball team,
or a baseball team. In fact, a college athlete may play football in the
fall, basketball in the winter, and baseball in the spring, and his
fans will cheer just as loud when he hits a home run, as when he makes
a touchdown.
The same attitude prevails among professional programmers, and should
prevail among hobbyists, as well.
